ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Denise

I am writing to formally announce my intent to run for re-election as your Township Commissioner in Ward 6. My goal the entire time in office has been to make Lower Moreland Township better today than it was yesterday for ALL the residents in our community. I humbly and respectfully ask for your support at the Primary Election on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

I have had the distinct honor and privilege of serving as your elected public official representing Ward 6 and our entire community for twenty-one years. Every decision, every initiative, has been guided by a single principal to serve you, your family and our entire community with my heart, compassion, integrity, transparency and hands on experience. I have never once put partisan politics before public service and I never will. I have always voted and done what was in the best interest of you, your family and our entire community.

During my tenure, I have been deeply involved in all facets of our local government gaining invaluable experience from planning and zoning, to public safety and community engagement. Over the years, I have served on many township, school and community boards and committees, that have shaped my understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Lower Moreland.

Public Service Leadership

  • Current President of the Board of Commissioners (2024) Lower Moreland Township, previously Vice President

  • Vice President, Board of Commissioners (2021 to 2023) Lower Moreland Township (unanimously elected) (previously serving 2009 to 2011)

Member of:

  • Montgomery County Association of Township Commissioners

  • Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners

  • Pennsylvania Association of Cities and Municipalities

  • Pennsylvania Municipal League

As your commissioner, some of the most important initiatives I have supported and advocated for include:

  • Public Safety Improving our police, fire and emergency response services. Enhanced traffic safety throughout the community, supported a new Community Policing Model. Supported the initiative leading to the Accreditation of the Police Department. Supported the creation of two school resource officer positions providing safety and security in our schools. Supported two K-9 officers to our Police Department, fully funded through donations.

  • Infrastructure Investments We made Improvements to many of our intersections, bridges and roads. Enhanced community connectability by supporting the initiative to provide sidewalks to public areas, connections to schools, rail stations and trails.

  • Stormwater Improving stormwater controls with our staff has been of the utmost importance. We continue to address and up-date our stormwater management practices. The Longview Basin in Ward 6 was upgraded.

  • Parks/Recreation Providing safe and fun park equipment, sport and community amenities at all of our Township parks, promoting community gathering, health and wellness.

  • Trash  Contracting a dependable trash and recycling collection program.

  • Open Space Preserving hundreds of acres of open space across the township.

  • Budget/Quality of Life Consistently worked with staff to create budgets that were unanimously supported by all commissioners. The annual budget guides investments and expenditures for the community and provides full transparency and accountability. The result is a safe high quality of life Lower Moreland residents expect and enjoy with family friends and neighbors.

  • 3993 Huntingdon Pike, Huntingdon Pike & County Line Road (Old Polonia Bank Building)

- A Sketch plan was presented to the Board in August 2024 asking for a change of zoning to develop, proposing two pad sites containing retail and restaurant space with drive-thrus on the existing commercial 2.15 acre property. The development is zoned BO-I - Business/Office Institutional.

- As your representative, I advocated for you stating that I was not in favor of this plan. (August 2024 Board of Commissioners meeting)

My husband’s parents purchased a home in 1967 in Ward 6 (Albidale). Our family has continued as a second generation for nearly forty years, raising our three sons, Matthew, Darin & Michael, all graduates of Lower Moreland High School. It is my love for our residents and this community that has fueled my dedication and commitment to making Lower Moreland a better place for all to live, work, start a business and raise a family. I look forward to continuing to work alongside you, be responsive to your needs, help you to solve problems and work together to find solutions. I am always available 24/7 for you, ready to serve you and our community. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Ward 6 Improvements that have been done over the last decade or more:

  • Paved walking path in LM Park and other parks.

  • Pond improvements adding new bolder rocks, new aeration fountain, Benches, bird houses.

  • Repaved both parking lots.

  • Installed New playground equipment in LM Park in 2020, Ridgeway in 2025. All new sports courts and a batting cage were installed at LM Park and Ridgeway. Replacement of an existing basketball court at Elkins Park. Justa Park in Justa Farms was created. Open Play at the Red Lion Gym is available for residents/ families around permitted uses.

- Upgrading and adding some play areas in our community are so important for children and families, serving as a social gathering place, as well as health and wellness for all.

- Murray Avenue School & community playground - I was proud to be a part of spearheading and working with School District staff, a team of amazing resident volunteer community members, to build a playground with no cost passed onto the residents. We fundraised for several years, I wrote and obtained grants. It warms my heart to have been a part of this project replacing the antiquated playground with new equipment and seeing the kids enjoy this area for many years.

  • Street lights continue to be ground, primed and painted.

  • All street lights were converted to LED throughout the Township saving the taxpayers money.

  • Stop bars were painted at Huntingdon Pike at Warfield, Huntingdon Pike at Barnswallow in Albidale, as well as some other development roads.

  • Street paving continues around all utility work (Peco, Aqua) in Ward 6 and throughout the Township.

  • PECO electric service was upgraded along Buck Road from County Line to Byberry.

  • Traffic Safety in Ward 6 - LMPD’s Traffic Safety unit continues to monitor speeding on roads, making recommendations to Commissioners. As your representative, I have been responsive to all resident concerns and have advocated on their behalf for new stop signs, speed limit signs and watch children signs that have been installed on roads. (Our gateway streets have been addressed and continue to be monitored: Warfield, Barnswallow, Meadowlark, wheatsheaf, Sheffield, Robin, Bobwhite).

  • Trees continue to be planted in LM Park and all of our other parks in the community as well as the addition of bird houses. To date, we have planted over 500 trees.

  • April 22nd, 2025 Earth Day Event - Come join us: Help plant a pollinator rain garden at LM Park Wheatsheaf entrance 3 pm to 4:30 pm.

- We have partnered with the Lower Moreland Township School District Environmental Club.

- We welcome all residents and their families.

- Park clean up and Earth Day Event will continue after the planting from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

  • Pavilion Snack Stand with bathrooms on Warfield Lane - staff has been researching the replacement of this antiquated 1970’s building for quite some time. We applied for a grant.

  • Park Signs - Staff has been researching the replacement of the park signs. For several years, the sign located on Wheatsheaf was cracked in half and being held together from the back, most recently falling over with a knocked off corbel. I asked public works to remove it. Warfield Lane sign is in better condition than Wheatsheaf. Staff has been exploring many replacement options, including making our own sign or not replacing the sign. I will keep you informed.

- I/we continue to be transparent, fiscally responsible and follow the law for any purchases or replacements.

  • 3993 Huntingdon Pike, Huntingdon Pike & County Line Road (Old Polonia Bank Building)

- As your representative, I expressed that I was not in favor of this plan in this location. (August 2024 Board of Commissioners meeting)

"My husband Paul and I have lived in this community for almost 6
years. When we first moved in, we were immediately welcomed by Denise Kuritz. Anytime we had a question about the park, the
neighborhood, the community, the people, the schools, she was the first person we were able to contact by cell. The first time Denise and I spoke personally we were on the
phone for over an hour talking about our families, our lifestyles and the reasons we moved to Lower Moreland. Since then, Denise has helped us in more ways than one. She secured our streets and put signs up for the children’s safety. She spoke at
the park and helped with the memorial for a child that grew up here that was sadly killed. She helps find lost animals. She has
stayed with many of those animals until the owner had come. She’s advocated for me as an educator, a mother and a friend
within the community.
Denise strives to keep the children of this area safe. She helps and runs the drive-through event at Halloween that my family
enjoys. She dedicates her time, her energy, her spirit to this community. She has been a valuable asset to Lower Moreland. We are proud to live in Lower Moreland and we are proud to have Denise as our commissioner."

"Denise Kuritz...Thank you for being approachable and always wanting and willing to help with Township or for any other matter that arises.

If she doesn't know the answer, she finds out and get back  with one. I always see her in the community at various events in the library, in schools, in the park. Denise treats everyone with respect. I have seen Denise picking up branches in the park, trash on the streets, organizing teens for community service, and helping elderly neighbors. Denise helps keep this community together and is always quick with a solution.

When I had a hazard with a PECO installation near my house Denise was right on it. She called the Public Works Department Director.  A call was made to PECO on my behalf. She knew exactly what to do because she is so familiar with the township. I’m very grateful for her selfless dedication to our community. What Denise does as a volunteer is equal to a paid position that my tax dollars would otherwise have to go to. She saves us ALL money. Mostly though, she cares a great deal and that goes a long way. Thank you Denise!"

“I want to give a special shoutout to Denise Kuritz for her incredible help in resolving a challenging situation with a local community business that was negatively impacting my home for years. When I made the Board of Commissioners aware of what was going on, Denise stepped in with professionalism, patience, and tremendous interpersonal skills. The competence she demonstrated was crucial in resolving the matter effectively. Myhusband and I are truly grateful for the time and effort she put into helping us navigate the issue and can’t thank her enough for her timely and thoughtful intervention. It’s rare to find someone who goes above and beyond, and her support made a significantdifference in the outcome of the situation."

Brandon W. (Ward 6)

"Wanted to give a hearty shout out to Denise Kuritz for Ward 6. She’s spent countless hours supporting our district, engaging with residents, leading the recent park cleanup event, and today solving an issue at our neighborhood park with Lower Moreland Public Works Dept! She just doesn’t stop! Not to mention some major support in helping make our through street safer. Definitely an unsung hero around here. Kudos to her on always being there for our residents. Thanks Commissioner Denise A. Kuritz!"
